Closing

  • The original Berber & Q is closing

Another week and another big closure has been announced. This time it's the turn of the original Berber & Q, which is shutting after 11 years in Haggerston.

Later called Berber & Q Grill House (to differentiate it from the Shawarma Bar on Exmouth Market), the restaurant was led by chef Josh Katz, taking over a large space under the Haggerston railway arches back in 2015. It opened towards the end of a period in the London food scene when barbecue was a

  • 10 Greek Street is closing after 14 years

The ongoing parade of London restaurant closures continues with another longstanding restaurant about to close its doors. This time it's the turn of 10 Greek Street, from Cameron Emirali and Luke Wilson.

The restaurant has been a mainstay of a street that's changed quite a lot since it first opened. The restaurant quickly became known for their ever-changing seasonal menu that rewarded repeat visits, as well as an excellent wine list that's also been great value (the house is still only £34 and they have a special £5 corkage on Fridays).

  • Keeping track of the restaurants and bars that have closed in London

    Recent restaurant closures in London

Here at Hot Dinners we mainly focus on the hottest restaurants in town, as well as new openings. But the London restaurant scene is ever-changing and that means some restaurants fall to the wayside. With that in mind, we're keeping track of the notable restaurants that London has lost over the past year.

  • Top Islington seafood restaurant Prawn on the Lawn is closing after 13 years

Sad news comes today of another restaurant that's local to us closing its doors. Recently we've said goodbye to Sambal Shiok and Black Axe Mangal, and now it turns out that Prawn on the Lawn in Islington is also closing its doors.

The seafood restaurant opened 13 years ago, but not actually in its current location. It ...

  • Mandy Yin's Malaysian restaurant Sambal Shiok has closed

After eight years, one of our favourite restaurants in the Highbury and Islington area, Sambal Shiok, has closed its doors for good (on 27 May). The Malaysian restaurant, which opened on Holloway Road in 2018, has been forced to close thanks to the financial pressures that are starting to hit more and more small businesses.

As founder Mandy Yin says, "Sambal Shiok’s closure reflects structural cost pressures facing the UK’s independent hospitality sector rather than any single event. The numbers stopped working."

Sambal Shiok had started life as a food stall before

  • Sartoria Launceston Place closes after only six months

Less than a year after launching, the first new Sartoria has already closed.

Late last year, after years as a standalone Mayfair restaurant (having originally opened with chef Francesco Mazzei), Sartoria was relaunched as a small group of restaurants. Now under the ownership of The Evolv Collection (what used to be D&D), a slow rollout began. First up was a takeover of what was Launceston Place. Previously run by chef Ben Murphy (now at 74 Charlotte Street), the restaurant had been closed for a year before Sartoria took its place in November 2025.

  • Heston announces plans to close Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

Within hospitality circles, it's been something of an open secret for a while, but Heston Blumenthal (in an interview with The Times) has finally confirmed that Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at The Mandarin Oriental is closing.

The restaurant opened 15 years ago, with Ashley Palmer-Watts as the Head Chef (and who is now, of course, heading up the food at The Devonshire). It was a big success at

  • Club Gascon is closing down after 27 years in business

The current business climate for restaurants in London is brutal. And we're particularly sad to be reporting on the demise of one of the city's longer-standing restaurants, Club Gascon.

In an email sent to regulars last night, the restaurant's owners, Chef Pascal Aussignac and Vincent Labeyrie, said that it was "With both gratitude and a heavy heart, we share that Club Gascon will be closing its doors following dinner service on 28 March.

"From the very beginning, our approach to dining was driven by passion and creativity - offering guests the freedom to explore three to

  • Is Rowans in Finsbury Park under threat? It could be...

If you're a North Londoner, or even if you're just someone who loves a good night out, then at some point in your life, an evening has probably involved the immortal words 'let's go to Rowans'. The bowling alley meets karaoke and late-night disco spot is one of those last vestiges of old-school late-night London, along with the likes of Infernos in Clapham.

As a Finsbury Park resident myself, I've spent most of my adult life in London in its orbit, from hazy nights out to raucous children's bowling parties. There's something fantastic and unreconstructed about Rowans that can't

FKABAM (aka Black Axe Mangal) is closing but it's not completely the end for the Islington restaurant

After 10 years, Lee and Kate Tiernan have announced that it's the end of the road for FKABAM (Formerly Known As Black Axe Mangal). Sort of.

Essentially, the last service of FKABAM in Islington will be just before Christmas. It sounds like it's not completely the end, though, as Lee says they "will continue cooking in our unique style,

  • The Pophams pasta restaurant in London Fields is closing for good

Ever since it opened back in 2019, Pophams in Hackney has been equally well known for its evening pasta restaurant as it has been for its bacon and maple swirls. But, very soon, its time is coming to an end.

    burro e salvio closing shoreditch

After 12 years of giving the people of East London amazing homemade pasta, the folks at Burro e Salvio are calling it quits. But in the run up to their closure they've decided to go out with a bang, culiminating in a few weeks of last-minute lunches, workshops and sales.
