We've been writing a lot about new restaurants at the moment, but we're also still seeing a lot of closures, and news has just broken about a big one in Stoke Newington.
A restaurant that's behind some of London's very best tacos, Sonora Taqueria, has announced that it's getting ready to close its doors for good. Run by husband-and-wife team Michelle Salazar de la Rocha and Sam Napier since 2019, the restaurant has long been praised for being behind some of the most authentic tacos in town. And apparently it's been a big success, with 2026 being their "most successful year to date".
But it seems that personal reasons are behind the closure. In a statement on Instagram, they said, "With all that joy and satisfaction comes a huge amount of pressure and responsibility that we have carried all this time. Throughout these years, we've also gone through an immense amount of hardship in our personal lives, while simultaneously trying to run this business to the best of our ability. We feel very proud to have been very successful at it, but it has also given us a new perspective on what we want for our lives as a couple. We feel ready to move on and try something new."
It's not the end just yet, as the announcement comes two months before the taqueria is to close. So if you've yet to try them or want to get through as many tacos as you can before they close for good, you have until 31 October to do so.
