Ever since it opened back in 2019, Pophams in Hackney has been equally well known for its evening pasta restaurant as it has been for its bacon and maple swirls. But, very soon, its time is coming to an end.
Announcing the closure news on Instagram, they have said that, like much of the industry right now, the decision was mainly about costs (with a little bit about changing dining habits). "The rising costs of produce, general bills, rent, and labour have placed enormous pressure on this side of the business, while the unpredictable nature of services in the early week has made it difficult to achieve the consistency needed to sustain the restaurant in the long term."
But, there's still time to make your way to one of London's best pasta restaurants before it finishes up for good. They're not closing until the end of October, so there should be enough time to make sure everyone can get their pasta fix before then.
And, of course, the bakery will continue as it always has. Starting next week, they'll be introducing a new collab with chef Laurent Dagenais. His Pain aux Figues (filled with vanilla custard, whiskey-soaked dried figs, and glazed in a whiskey-orange syrup) will be available from 15 to 28 September 2025.
