  • Slice Circle are taking on the pizza duties at the Old Nun's Head in Nunhead

Until recently, the Old Nun's Head in Nunhead was home to one of London's best pizzerias, Dough Hands. They've now moved on, but Nunhead pizza fans now have something completely new to look forward to.

Taking on the residency in the pub is Slice Circle. That's a duo comprising Angus Whitfield, previously at Dough Hands, and Methun Chelvan, previously at Bad Boy Pizza Society. So they've got some very strong pizza know-how between them. As for their signature pizza style, they say it "offers a super thin, light, crispy bite, with a juicy crust designed for dunking. • Alley Cats brings a slice hatch to its next pizzeria on Portobello Road

17/2/25 - Updated with the opening date

They only recently opened in Westbourne Grove but now Alley Cats are opening their next restaurant on Portobello Road, barely a 15-minute walk away.

Their latest pizza restaurant is adding something that none of the others have, though - a slice hatch. So if you don't fancy waiting for a table, you'll be able to grab an 18-inch slice from said hatch. If that's not enough for you, then the main restaurant is a large two-floor affair, which also has an off-road terrace space, so it should be generally easier to get a table

  • Ex-Dough Hands pizza chef brings Hot Saint Pizza to the Old Queen's Head in Islington

The Old Queen's Head in Islington had once been the home of Lucky Chip and is also a great place for a Sunday lunch, but now they're about to launch something brand new - Hot Saint Pizza.

The Islington pub was taken over by the Columbo Group (who also run The Parakeet) 20 years ago, so they're using the excuse of their 20th anniversary for a big overhaul in the food. Hot Saint comes from Tom Budakan, an ex-Dough Hands chef, so he knows what he's doing when it comes to pizza. And apparently, he's even previously been a DJ in the pub.

London's pizza scene really exploded in 2025 and 2026 looks like it's off to a similarly strong start with Connie's Pizza. It comes from Andrea Asciuti, the founder of 081 Pizza, based in Peckham and Shoreditch, which has made it onto the Top 50 Pizzas in Europe list.

Connie's (named after Andrea's wife) will be a little different from 081. As Andrea explains, it's offering up the "UK’s first Bri-talian pizza". That means it will be a London-style crispy pizza, albeit made by Italians. The ingredients will also be very different from your standard pizzeria, too,
