Outside Weezies, which is, as you can see, right next to Amie Wine Studio, from the same team.
What can you tell us about Weezie's?
This is the latest bar in London to realise that pizza and wine make a pretty great combination, much like Ria's in Notting Hill and Soho. This wine bar/pizzeria comes from Will and Abbie Sandbach, the people who own Amie Wine Studio, which is right next door. When the space became available (it used to be Biscuiteers), they decided to expand into it, but try something different from their main wine bar - hence the pizza being the main draw here.
Where is it?
You'll find Weezie's inside Ecclestone Yards, the same courtyard that also features Wild by Tart, Jones Family Kitchen, Cornus and more. It's about a five-minute walk from Victoria station and as mentioned, next door to Amie Wine Studio. It's a fairly big, long space and, as the days get warmer, it's really going to benefit from the large outside terrace.
Inside Weezies, it's a long, thin room, lots of exposed brickwork with a large sharing table down the back.
Outside, there's a pretty big terrace space.
What can we expect from the menu here?
The Weezie's tagline - "pizza, wine, pints" sets out the scene pretty well as that's just what you can expect here (although strictly speaking, that should say "cocktails" too). The menu is led by their thin-crust pizzas made with regeneratively farmed flour and with a focus on British ingredients. Their chef, Sumant Sinai, came from Circus Pizza in Panzer’s Deli. However, Sumant's wife gave birth just before the restaurant opened, so for the moment, he's had to leave things to his sous chef. Given they're a man down and have been busy since day one, we tip our hats to the kitchen team here, who are doing a very impressive job in less-than-ideal circumstances. Congrats to Sumant and his wife, though!
So the menu is a selection of small plates, pizzas and dips - and here's what we had:
Loaded Torres crisps, with aged ham, guindillas, cornichons and parmesan dusting (£9) - good but we'd have preferred a little less pickle and a little more ham.
Confit garlic butter dough with an excellent whipped garlic labneh on the side (£7)
The Sobrasada (£17) - tomato base, Fior di latte mozzerella, Curing Rebels sobrasada, swirled charred sweetcorn, hot honey drizzle, parmesan dusting and parsley.
Sausage (£16) - tomato base, Fior di latte mozzerella, brumbles fennel sausage, garlic creme fraiche, torn basil, lemon zest, cold-pressed olive oil
Other pizzas include a standard margherita and there's also a vegetarian "Labneh" pizza that features the amazing whipped garlic labneh that comes with the bread. Also, make sure to get a dip for the crusts, with options including ranch, salsa verde and hot honey, but you should really prioritise the confit garlic mayo dip.
What about the drinks?
Amie make their own wines, all produced in the south of France, and those wines make up the bulk of the short wine selection here, with sauvignon, chardonnay, rosé, cremant, craginan and cabernet franc among the selection, with the entry-level wine coming in at a very reasonable £32 (and Amie's own Sauvignon being £35). We ended up going for their orange wine (also £32), which proved to be a perfect match for the pizzas on offer.
Weezie's also have a few beers on draft (although their Guinness pouring needs attention) and a small selection of cocktails.
Their spicy marg is an easy recommendation (£12)
Overall thoughts
The pizzas at Weezie's are very decent. They may not be quite up there with the best in London right now, but pair them with a great (and reasonably priced) bottle of Amie wine, and we think you'll have a lovely evening here. There's a great, welcoming vibe, and that terrace will be just the place to hang ouot in the coming months, for sure.
