One of London's best pizzerias is back as Lenny's is going permanent in Covent Garden.
Back in 2024, Max Lewis set up shop inside the Bedford Tavern in Finsbury Park as Lenny's Apizza, a pizza residency with one mission - to bring authentic New Haven-style pizzas to London.
The New Haven pizzas, also called "apizza", originate in Connecticut at Frank Pepe Pizzeria from all the way back in 1925 (and that pizzeria is still going strong today). Max himself has spent time in Connecticut learning the ropes, and the original Finsbury Park residency was viewed as turning out pretty authentic New Haven-style pizzas. In case you're wondering what that means, the pizzas are left in the oven longer to produce a charred (yet also chewy) crust with a big focus on more tomato and less cheese than your average pizza.
Lenny's quickly became a must-visit spot for anyone wanting to work their way through London's best pizzas before it finished up earlier this year. But now he's back, bringing pizzas like his signature tomato pie and The Lenny, which has one half topped with tomato, garlic and pecorino, the other as a classic mozzarella pie. There are more pizzas, of course, but they're revealing the full menu closer to the opening date.
So if you missed Lenny's at the original residency, you'll want to head down to his permanent spot in Covent Garden.
