Traditionally one of the quieter months of the year for new openings, there's still a fair bit to look forward to this August. There's the next from Sabor chef Nieves Barragán, a Camino pintxo spin-off in Covent Garden, and a Hoxton pub that's one to watch, not to mention more pizzerias.
Legado
Shoreditch - 1 Montacute Yards, 185‑186 Shoreditch High Street, London E1 6HU
It's been seven years since Nieves Barragán opened Sabor in Mayfair (winning a Michelin star along the way), and now she's getting ready to open her follow-up, Legado. This time, the restaurant will be inspired by food from across Spain, with Nieves taking a nose-to-tail approach to the food and with a lot of effort going into sourcing. Dishes planned for the menu here include suckling pig, crystal Mediterranean prawns with smoked paprika; and confit lobster with chilli and garlic on thinly sliced rose potatoes. Lots of dishes will be covered by a runny fried egg, and there's also the Legado sandwich, made with Swiss chard, Cecina and smoked cheese, then fried in breadcrumbs.
In the same area as recent opening Singburi, expect this to be just as big a hit.
Opening: 28 August 2025
The Macbeth
Hoxton - 70 Hoxton Street, London N1 6LP
Nationwide, pubs are not in a great place, but despite that London is seeing a number of very interesting openings backed up by some truly inventive menus. Latest to join them is relaunched pub The Macbeth in Hoxton, which has brought in former Four Legs/The Plimsoll chef Jamie Allan to run the kitchen. His menu will be looking to the tascas of Portugal for inspiration and it'll be serving food pretty late for a pub (until 11pm). Dishes like snail rice, pork and cheese rolls and morcela fina (aka Portuguese black pudding) are planned, and the pub will also get a complete refurbishment, including restoring the mural that it takes its name from.
Opening: 13 August 2025
Pintxito
Covent Garden - Arches 5 & 6, Covent Garden Piazza, London WC2E 8RF
This is the latest opening from the people behind Camino, and it's something of a departure for them. Opening inside the Covent Garden piazza, it's a small pintxo restaurant. They'll be serving up a range of Basque-inspired pintxos of the kind you'll find in Bilbao or San Sebastian, displayed on the counter as is common in those bars. Planned dishes include baby squid in squid ink and gildas (which have become a big thing on London menus of late), while you can expect lots of txakoli on the wine side, hopefully poured from a great height if they want to keep things authentic.
Opening: August 2025
Bad Boy Pizza
Bethnal Green - 419 Bethnal Green Road, London E2 0AN
You may have noticed, but there have been rather a lot of pizzaa restaurants opening of late - it's officially become something of a 2025 trend (there are even two in this month's guide). Bad Boy Pizza Society have been popping up in residencies across town, but this Bethnal Green restaurant is their first permanent restaurant. Italian-American-inspired NYC-style pizzas are the main event, served as slices during the day and whole pizzas in the evening. Alongside more traditional offerings, you'll find their own takes like The Crusty Old Goat (mozzarella, goat's cheese, caramelised onions, black pepper, balsamic glaze and parsley).
Opening: 8 August 2025
Junk Burger
Marylebone - 14-15 St Christopher’s Place, London W1U 1LT
Is it really a proper new opening guide if we don't have a smash burger restaurant on the list? This month it's the turn of Junk Burger who, after great success in Soho, are opening a much bigger burger bar in Marylebone, just a few short steps from Oxford Street. Expect the usual cheeseburgers where you decide the amount of patties (up to five if you're really looking to induce meat sweats) along with their spin-off Puffy's large chewy cookies for dessert.
Opening: August 2025
Berberè
Marylebone - 50 James Street, London W1U 1HB
The second pizzeria of August is the fourth restaurant from Berberè and it's opening not too far from Junk (above). It's currently rated the world’s 6th best artisan pizzeria chain by the 50 Top Pizza list and the pizzeria originated in Italy. The pizzas here are from a base that's from 24-hour-proofed sourdough, made with organic type 1 flour. Pizzas on the menu at the moment include the Salsiccia made with Yorkshire pork sausage and a summer special called Babaganoush featuring aubergine and goat's cheese.
Opening: 4 August 2025
Kerb Social Club
Spitalfields - 65 Brushfield St, London E1 6AA
Kerb may be more known for their markets and food halls (they only recently opened Corner Corner in Canada Water). But this latest opening is a big swing for them - a sports bar in Spitalfields, or more specifically a place that has "American sports bar energy fused with pub comfort". Along with screens, there are residencies from kerb favourites, starting with Oh My Dog serving hot dogs and Cutie Pies with their Detroit-style pizza.
Opening: 1 August 2025
Black Cow
Shoreditch - 30 Curtain Road, London EC2A 3NL
Having first opened in Camden, this Middle Eastern-influenced steakhouse is moving to a new Shoreditch development, The Stage. Here, the new menu will feature dishes like a lamb merguez corn dog with labneh and sweet harissa as well as cornbread with lamb butter. The steaks will be Josper-grilled, with cuts including picanha, T-bone and onglet.
