There have been some big changes at John Lewis recently, and one of the biggest was to completely relaunch their cafe in the Oxford Street store (and in other locations) as Platter. That launched a couple of months ago, but now they're going one step further and joining up with Elizabeth Haigh to launch a three-month residency of Mei Mei in the store.
If you haven't yet come across Mei Mei, inspired by a Singaporean-style Kopitiam, you'll find it as one of the key stalls that make up Borough Yards. Inside John Lewis, the residency will take a slightly different turn as it's being launched as in conjunction with a big team-up with John Lewis and Mei Mei Goods (the spin-off condiment brand created with Renee St John).
So you'll find a charcuterie board (chorizo, prosciutto, olives, gherkins and crusty bread) or a cheeseboard (Cashel Blue and Black Bomber with grapes and bread) served alongside the Mei Mei Hot Honey (which won a Great Taste Award). There are also sticky, slow-cooked pulled pork sliders, tossed in Mei Mei sweet soy and house chilli sriracha, topped with pickled red onion and served in a soft bun. They're also doing Mei Mei crispy fried chicken tossed in the same mix.
For the festive season there will be two special - hot honey pigs in blankets and pizza diavola (again coming with the hot honey). You will, of course, be able to pick up jars of the Mei Mei Goods to take home and if you can't make it to Oxford Street, those will soon also be appearing in almost 250 Waitrose stores across the country.
