If you’d like to experience a little bit of exciting Cape Town dining without leaving the comfort of home, there’s a pop-up coming to London that you’d better put on your radar.
The Pot Luck Club is coming to the UK for the first time, giving Londoners the chance to experience British-born chef Luke Dale Roberts’ Cape Town–based restaurant. You’ll find it taking up residency at one of the longest-standing hotels in Aldwych. The Waldorf Hilton’s Homage restaurant and its Wild Monkey Bar will be collaborating to capture The Pot Luck Club spirit for the duration of the residency.
If you’ve not been to Cape Town recently, then let us set the scene: the Pot Luck Club perches atop the sixth floor of the Old Biscuit Mill, with impressive skyline views, and was added to the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Discovery List in 2019.
Chef Luke and the team from Cape Town are coming to London to oversee the launch, and Sous Chef Rachel Maroun will then lead the three-month residency. You can expect globally-inspired small plates, such as
- Smoked beef fillet with truffle café au lait
- Springbok tataki with mandarin gastrique
- Cape Malay–spiced vegetarian dishes
For the first time, there’ll also be a bar snacks menu at The Wild Monkey Bar, curated by chef Luke to complement the cocktails, which feature house-infused cordials and seasonal ingredients.
If you’re up for seeing how one of London’s landmark hotels plays home to one of South Africa’s celebrated restaurants, then there’ll also be a choice of menu options: à la carte, a Lite prix fixe (for those tight on time) or the full Loaded tasting menu.
