One of the best-known chefs in the UK and an ambassador for Spanish food through his many restaurants, José Pizarro is probably best known for his trio of restaurants in Bermondsey - José, Pizarro and Lolo. A longstanding resident of south London, he's recently moved to Kennington and has agreed to share his favourite food and drink places close to his new home with Hot Dinners.
Dragon Castle
100 Walworth Rd, London SE17 1JL
Dim sum at Dragon Castle is a real highlight, especially on Sundays. The food is consistently good, and it’s one of the few places locally where you can enjoy authentic Cantonese dishes.
Prince of Wales
Cleaver Square, Kennington, London SE11 4EA
A proper, traditional pub set on a beautiful historic square. It’s got a great atmosphere, especially in the summer when people spill out onto the square with their drinks.
Saint Louie
St Peter's Church Walworth, Liverpool Grove, London SE17 2HH
A lovely collaboration between Louie Louie and St Peter’s Church. They serve brilliant bread, pastries, cakes, sandwiches, soup and Redemption coffee - all in a unique, community-driven setting.
I Due Amici
310-312 Kennington Road, London SE11 4LD
A much-loved local spot that’s wonderfully unpretentious. The food is always fresh and home-cooked, from breakfasts and sandwiches to salads and Italian specials - and the staff couldn’t be friendlier. The little garden at the back is a real bonus.
The Camberwell Arms
65 Camberwell Church St, London SE5 8TR
This one's a bit further afield but worth it. Excellent food and drink, and especially good for a traditional Sunday roast done properly
