  • Kentish Town's Rossella is expanding, hitting up Muswell Hill with pizza, pasta and a tiramisu trolley

Having worked in Kentish Town for years, we can attest to the popularity of its neighbourhood Italian, Rossella. Tucked up on the Highgate Road, it's been luring locals in with its pizzas and pasta since the late seventies. The service was always super friendly and the very drinkable wines came from the family's own vineyard back in Benevento in Campania.

Now the family-run restaurant is hoping to bring a little of that magic across North London to the folks of Muswell Hill. They've taken over the site that used to be Giggling Squid, just off the Broadway. It's a large space which

  • Theo James and his restaurant crew are opening a second restaurant, Ornella, in Hackney

Having enjoyed a barnstorming success with their first restaurant, LUPA, in Highbury, the team behind that are gearing up for a second opening. Actor Theo James, restaurateur Ed Templeton and chef Naz Hassan (pictured above with sous chef Sandro) are getting the band back together to try their luck in Hackney next.

They've settled on Wilton Way, where they've taken over the site that used to be Fran's for their new restaurant, Ornella. That's making the road a bit of a hot spot at the moment, with

  • Auguste takes over the Papi space in London Fields, promising Abruzzan skewers

It's only been a couple of weeks since Papi closed, but there's already a replacement for the space lined up. Called Auguste, it will be be inspired by the Abruzzo region of Italy, and skewers will be a big part of the offering.

Behind the restaurant are chef Mike Bagnall (previously Elm at The Montpelier) and Dylan Walters, who was the restaurant manager at Bambi. Bagnall used to live in the Abruzzo region, so that's where the inspiration for Auguste came from. His flame-grilled skewers will include lamb, cull yaw, wagyu, liver and wild boar, and he'll be cooking up whole fish

  • CeCe's Italian restaurant is the latest stealth launch from the Public House group

The Public House Group are known for launching new openings with little fanfare (like The Hart, Canteen and The Fat Badger), and that's the case once again with their latest, CeCe's.

Unlike their recent openings, this isn't a pub, although they are taking over a space that was once a pub, so it's not a massive departure. It's being billed as an Italian with a "hint of Hollywood". So it sounds like it's going for the glam kind of Italian restaurant that Martin Kuczmarski has been so successful with at The Dover and Martino's. The full menu is yet to be revealed, but dishes

  • Burro sees Trullo chef and co-owner bringing Italian dishes and Irish hospitality to Covent Garden

11/2/26 - updated with the soft launch details

Ever since we heard that Petersham Nurseries had shut both their restaurants in central London, we've been wondering what was going to take over those spaces in Floral Court. Well, now we have the answer to one half of that. Conor Gadd is the chef and co-owner of the perennially popular Trullo in Islington. And he's taken on the space that was The Petersham to open Burro, his first solo venture.

Burro is also going to be an Italian restaurant, but one where the design speaks to Conor's Irish roots. The look we're told

  • Milanese-coded Sartoria comes to The City, opening by Liverpool Street

Last year, we wrote about how The Evolv Group (previously D&D) were going all-in on their Sartoria brand, expanding the restaurant that was originally launched by Francesco Mazzei into a mini group of restaurants. Well, that's continuing apace as they're already about to launch the fourth outpost.

Rather than opening brand new places, Evolv have been repurposing some of their existing restaurants, this one being just opposite Liverpool Street Station. Once, this was a pair of restaurants - New Street Grill and Fish Market. New Street Grill has relaunched as Liverpool

  • Dara Klein reveals what to expect from Tiella Trattoria & Bar on Columbia Road

12/1/26 - updated with the opening date

For a small pub residency, Tiella at The Compton Arms got a lot of column inches. There was something about chef Dara Klein's cooking that reflected the places she'd worked in London (Brawn, Trullo, and Sager & Wilde) and her background that included a childhood spent both in Emilia Romagna and New Zealand. Her cooking was different, exciting, yet deeply hospitable.

Now, like The Compton's Four Legs residency before it, Tiella is moving into permanent digs. We have a strong gut feeling that Tiella Trattoria

  • Osteria Vibrato sees the Laughing Heart's Charlie Mellor open an Italian in Soho

Three years after closing The Laughing Heart in Hackney, Charlie Mellor is back with his latest venture, an Italian trattoria with fellow sommelier Cameron Dewar, formerly of Luca and Burnt Ends.

Osteria Vibrato is the latest to join the recent trend of new Italian restaurants opening in town, this one with a menu created by Gaia Enria, founder of recently closed Burro e Salvia. Hoping to set themselves apart from the crowd, they're saying the menu will have a focus on simplicity.
