  • The Botanist on Sloane Square is to become a pub again, from the people behind The Walmer Castle

We've been hearing murmurings about changes at Chelsea pub The Botanist for a while, and now we have confirmation. After 18 years of being run by the ETM group, it's being taken over by Wren pubs, the people behind The Walmer Castle, The Surprise, and The Carpenter's Arms.

The new pub won't be called The Botanist any more, but they also haven't decided on a name yet. The plan is to start a refurb in June, and return it to being a proper neighbourhood pub (something Sloane Square could really benefit from). As such, it's a little early to discover just what the plans are for the

  • The Horsemen and Fitzgerald's is an Irish-American (and horse) inspired pub/restaurant

Things have been busy around Broadgate of late. Recently, there has been the launch of a new Vagabond wine bar and the arrival of US import Velvet Taco and now there's a new American-Irish "pub and clubhouse" arriving. And, let's face it, Irish pubs are certainly doing rather well in London at the moment.

Originally planned as The Horsemen, it's now going to be The Horsemen and Fitzgerald's, both with a bit of a horsey theme.

First off, and at the front of the venue, is The Horsemen. That's a "traditional Irish Freehouse", and yes, there will be Guinness alongside a big

  • The entire Spiteri family is ganging up to launch The Latimer pub in North Kensington

The Spiteri family have been making waves on London's hospitality scene for a while, and now they're about to launch a new pub, in North Kensington.

Jon Spiteri is a legendary restaurateur and front-of-house man, with The French House, St. John,  Sessions Arts Club and many, many more behind him. Jon's ex-wife Melanie Arnold is the co-founder of Rochelle Canteen. Their sons Lorcan and Fin Spiteri were behind the houseboat success of Caravel, and sister Molly is Business Development Lead at Koya.

That's a pretty impressive range of experience all wrapped up in one family,

  • New Hackney pub The Gun wants you to come for the Guinness, stay for the wagyu

Just under a year ago, the popular Hackney pub The Gun announced it was closing down. Back then, its owners, who also run The Compton Arms in Islington, cited the current economic conditions saying "despite our very best efforts it has become unsustainable to continue trading". Well, where one door closes, another opens and it looks as though the pub is about to get a new lease of life.

It's been bought, according to trade title Propel, by J-Pub Holdings. That in itself doesn't sound particularly exciting until you discover that the man behind that is Kotaro Ogawa, the man behind

  • A huge Wetherspoons is getting ready to open on Shaftesbury Avenue

Love them or loathe them, Wetherspoons pubs are among the most successful in the country. That said, there are surprisingly few in the centre of town, but that's about to change as they're getting ready to open an enormous 300+ seat pub on Shaftesbury Avenue.

According to hospitality industry site Propel, Wetherspoons is taking over the Coyote Ugly site, which itself only lasted a year and a half (although apparently a West End musical is being planned/threatened). Looking at the plans online, it's an enormous space (nearly 4000sq ft) and like other Wetherspoons, it plans to

  • The Bush Tavern is opening as the new home of No Drama Burgers

no drama burger at the bush tavern

We've been wondering when we'd hear where popular West London burger slingers No Drama were moving to, since they lost their own premises in Acton earlier this year. Now we have the answer. They'll be in charge of the food side of things at new pub, The Bush Tavern, that's just about to open in Shepherd's Bush. And this isn't just a residency, it's a permanent home.

The tavern is taking over the pub on

Clapham's Four Thieves pub is reborn as The Thieves, with Balans on food duty

Since August, Battersea's Four Thieves pub has been undergoing a big renovation and now it's coming out the other end of that as a "new" pub, The Thieves.

In its previous incarnation, the pub had an arcade and was big on events and karaoke. Now it's really leaning into that, describing itself as "a playground for adults". The upstairs arcade, now called The

Willem Dafoe gets a mayfair pub named after him

As autumn arrives, the drinks brands' marketing budget shoots up in preparation for Christmas, and that usually means we get some mad pop-ups and events in the last few months of the year. This latest venture certainly fits into that mould.

The Barley Mow in Mayfair has teamed up with Laphroaig Whisky and none other than Willem Dafoe for their current stunt. It's to tie in with ...
