19th century pub St John's Tavern in Archway is reopening after a £1 million makeover

19th century pub St John's Tavern in Archway is reopning after a £1 million makeover

Urban Pubs and Bars, the team that owns pubs like The Gun in Spitalfields as well as the Salt Yard group, are gearing up to launch their next big pub. In September, they took over the St John's Tavern in Archway and now it's about to get its big unveiling.

The pub has apparently had a £1 million makeover, so it's definitely been given more than a simple scrub up. The information about the relaunch suggests they haven't messed around with the layout of the 19th-century tavern too much, just renewed everything inside.

However, it does sound like the menu has been given a big revamp. That's now concentrating on British dishes, with starters like Maldon rock oysters with apple and horseradish vinegar or scallops with leek cream and bacon. Oysters will also be £2 each every Thursday.

They'll have big sharing dishes like cock-a-leekie pie and slow-cooked lamb shoulder, as well as their own aged Hereford burger and 28-day aged ribeye. As for desserts, expect sticky toffee pudding and Guinness cake. Of course, there will be a Sunday roast and they're planning supperclubs too.

So if you're a local waiting for this to reopen to check it out, it's not long now.
