Things have been busy around Broadgate of late. Recently, there has been the launch of a new Vagabond wine bar and the arrival of US import Velvet Taco and now there's a new American-Irish "pub and clubhouse" arriving. And, let's face it, Irish pubs are certainly doing rather well in London at the moment.
Originally planned as The Horsemen, it's now going to be The Horsemen and Fitzgerald's, both with a bit of a horsey theme.
First off, and at the front of the venue, is The Horsemen. That's a "traditional Irish Freehouse", and yes, there will be Guinness alongside a big collection of Irish whiskeys and American bourbon. It'll also be showing horse races on screens around the room, so opening the week before the Grand National seems like pretty great (and, let's face it, necessary) timing.
At the back will be Fitzgerald's, which is a "jockey-club inspired dining room". They're describing what's available there as a "Kentucky-to-Dublin grill menu", promising lamb shank pie, Irish beef steaks, a turbot cassoulet with espelette sauce and a Kentucky Derby pie to finish. They'll also have "sharing style Kentucky Fried Chicken", but we can bet when that's on the menu, it'll have a different title.
It will be an all-day restaurant, so they'll be kicking things off in the morning with an Irish breakfast (black treacle bacon, fried eggs, mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, black pudding, hash browns and farls) that sounds perfect for a business breakfast meeting.
It all comes from 13th Street Hospitality, who were the people who brought Sunday in Brooklyn to London. That's been a big success, so it'll be interesting to see how this new approach works in the City.
