The best wine bars in West London

While it may not have quite the density of interesting new wine bars as East London, what West London lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality. From new openings near Hyde Park to old-school favourites, here are our pick of the best places to drink wine in West London.

Sol’s

Bayswater - 25 Leinster Terrace, London W2 3ET

Tucked down a side street in Bayswater, Sol's brings a bit of East London edge to the wine lovers of West London. This aesthetically gorgeous, but diminutive, bar features a wine list drawn up by food and drink writer Mina Holland which brings an enticing selection of low-intervention wines from some of her favourite European regions to this West London bar. Wines are chosen to match the bar snacks and the food offering is European-focused. Think cheese, charcuterie and a weekly-changing small plates menu.

Drop KensingtonLondon's best wine bars

Kensington - 37 Earls Court Road, London, W8 6ED

This offshoot of the original Drop in Covent Garden is a bar and bottle shop owned by wine buff Dominic Condon who’s put together a list of 200 wines that are, he says, a mix of off-the beaten track varieties as well as icons of the wine world. There’s a wide selection available by the glass and carafe and food comes in the form of a regularly-changing selection of cheese and charcuterie.

The Wee SisterLondon's best wine bars

Chelsea - 492 King's Rd, London SW10 0LE

Right next door to Anna Haugh's Chelsea restaurant Myrtle, is where you'll find her wine bar. The Wee Sister's USP is that the list consists of wines made by Irish people around the world, such as Doran Wines, made in South Africa by an Irish vintner who lives in London. You'll also find Anna's own label cremant on there. As for bar food, you can opt for an Irish cheese board or Myrtle's amazing soda bread with oysters.

Franklin's WineLondon's best wine bars - Franklin's Wine

Notting Hill - 305 Westbourne Grove, London W11 2QA

This cosy spot on Westbourne Grove was set up by wine enthusiast Benjit Singh. In the summer, a glass of wine here out on the terrace feels like winning at London. There's a tight list available by the glass and bottle that ranges all over the world. And as we're in Notting Hill, you're more likely to spot someone ordering Montrachet than a glass of orange wine. For oenophiles who fancy their chances, the mystery wine option offers the chance to win your glass for free - if you can guess the grape, country and wine.

Ria'sLondon's best wine bars - Ria's

Notting Hill - 29 All Saints Rd, London W11 1HE

The arrival of this natural wine bar and pizza slice shop in Notting Hill was yet another clue that this part of town had finally got hip again. Owners David and Ria Morgan-Ratcliffe have built a list focusing on natural, low-intervention that celebrates small producers. It's a short and seasonally-changing list with a rotating wine of the week. Come here to enjoy a cold glass of wine and a slice of deep pan pie.

Golborne Fine Wine & DeliLondon's best wine bars - Golborne Fine Wine & Deli

Notting Hill - 100-102 Golborne Rd, London W10 5PS

This popular Notting Hill wine bar and deli on Golborne Road hits that sweet spot between a classic list and one that also highlights winemakers producing sustainable and vegan wines. The team are keen to share their knowledge and enthusiasm, organising both private and public wine tastings. In addition to the thoughtful main wine list, there's also a range of wines available by Coravin. So if you fancy trying something rather special, like a 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley Spottswoodes Estate, this is the place to go.
