Lady of the Grapes heads to Borough for their next wine bar

28/5/26 - updated with soft launch offer

For seven years, Lady of the Grapes has been one of the best wine bars in Covent Garden. Now they're heading to Borough as part of one of the area's best-looking buildings, the Menier Chocolate Factory. The new Lady of the Grapes SE1 will have the same focus on female winemakers as the original, but in a much larger space. Each of the two levels of the bar will have a different approach.

On the ground floor, there will be the main restaurant, seating around 60, with 20 more on the terrace. Like the original in Covent Garden, this will be cooking up dishes in a French bistro style. The kitchen is led by Matyáš Plzák (previously Frog by Adam Handling, Frenchie and Mãos) and on the menu you'll find dishes like Oeuf meurette with lardons and red wine sauce and Comté soufflé with summer truffle. On the larger side, they'll have poached Bresse chicken with morels and vin jaune sauce or lamb chops with mint Grenobloise, peas, artichokes and lamb jus. Plus, they'll have madeleines and Paris-Brest for dessert.

Down in the basement will be the 45-seater wine bar, called Forbidden Fruit, which, alongside the wine list, will be serving up a charcuterie menu. They'll have around 400 bottles on the list, so you won't be short on choice.

There aren't too many wine bars in this area of town, so it should be very handy if you're in the area.
