The team behind Pachamama have spent the last year moving their restaurants' culinary inspiration point from Peru to the Mediterranean. It's been an extremely successful transformation, with both Bottarga on the King's Road and Nina in Marylebone being big hits. Now, the final restaurant, Pachamama East, gets the Med makeover, being reborn as Lagana.
This Greek-inspired restaurant is aiming to be a little more casual than the glitzy feel of their other recent openings, perhaps taking its Shoreditch setting into account. The menu is once again led by Tzoulio Loulai, their Group Executive Chef, with a little help from Brand Director, Yaroslava Malkova, who is clearly on a bit of a winning streak at the moment.
There's an emphasis on a home-cooking style here, with the menu led by the lagana itself, a puffed flatbread straight from the oven served with bowls of seasonal spreads and dips. Elsewhere on the menu, you'll find courgette tempura with a spiced red pepper sauce, loukoumades (Greek doughnuts) with melted Graviera cheese inside and anthotiro cheese folded with thyme, truffle oil and honeycomb.
They'll also be serving up skewers and dry-aged picanha from the grill and lamb kebab in oregano-tomato with cumin yoghurt and roasted fennel. On the seafood side, there's a bass ceviche in a kakavia sauce and their take on a bouillabaisse.
The restaurant itself is getting an overhaul, with the wabi-sabi walls from its previous incarnation now matched with vintage chandeliers. As for the drinks, that'll be led by a new frozen cocktail, a Pomegranate Pisco Sour that they say pays homage to new beginnings as well as their old roots.
