  • Kong sees Andrew Wong and Dishoom co-founder Amar Radia teaming up for a Chinese pub and kitchen

It's been a long time since Andrew Wong has concentrated on anything other than his two-Michelin-starred restaurant A Wong, last opening the short-lived Kym's in Bloomberg Arcade, back in 2018.

But now he's getting ready to head to Shoreditch, opening Kong in the Nolton Folgate development (where you'll also find Osteria Angelina). He's taking over the address that was The Water Poet in the area, but that whole space has been completely redeveloped so we're not sure just what remains of that old pub.

For this, he's teamed up with Dishoom co-founder Amar

  • A Magnum x Roll Boys bakery has opened in Shoreditch, for 48 hours only

With perfect timing for the current hot weather, a pop-up bakery is opening its doors in East London for the weekend, serving up a range of limited-edition cinnamon rolls in a collaboration with Magnum.

The Magnum After Hours bakery is an evening-only affair, which has taken over the Roll Boys bakery for the next two nights. It's going to be serving up three limited-edition Magnum Bonbon x Roll Boys cinnamon rolls:

    • White Chocolate & Cookies

  • Cornbread madeleines and poussin with grits; Appalachia will serve up Southern food with a London polish

It's all change over at the restaurant formerly known as Counter 71 in Shoreditch. The chef's table restaurant previously focused on an all-British menu. Now it's being turned into Appalachia, a restaurant inspired by the mountainous region of the US.

For the new restaurant, a new chef has been brought in - Alistair Borer (ex-Smoking Goat and Nutbourne). He's taking the American co-owners Camilla Meshiea and Ryan Sheenan's vision to the table. And really, the idea to turn the restaurant over to American influences does marry the whole space here together as the bar downstairs,

  • Without Papers, a Shoreditch bar where seasoned Italian hospitality folk have it all sussed out

without papers bar review shoreditch london

Three incredibly experienced bar professionals have set out on their own, opening Without Papers, a Shoreditch bar serving up excellent Italo/British cocktails. We pulled up a stool at the bar.

  • The Little Neon Door has the Little Door Co heading to Shoreditch for their next bar

They already have orange, yellow, scarlet, blue and violet Little Doors around town and now a Little Neon Door is getting ready to open in Shoreditch.

Taking over what was once Floripa cocktail bar, this is going to follow the template of the other, very successful, Little Doors in the growing franchise. So it's essentially themed after a house party, and you could have cocktails in the Sitting Room, a party in the Living Room and Kitchen, karaoke in the shower and loot the fancy dress cupboard in the Dressing Room (which also has karaoke).

    Alongside the cocktails,

  • The Grogu Cafe, with lots of Star Wars-themed matcha and doughnuts, is popping up in Shoreditch

It might have somehow escaped your notice to date that there's a new Star Wars film coming out. But in the next few weeks, that movie is going to be hard to miss. And where there's a big new film, there's a pop-up. So as The Mandalorian and Grogu gets ready for release, Londoners will have a chance to visit the Grogu Café, popping up in Shoreditch.

Given that it's all centred around the green-tinged character formerly known as "baby Yoda", it makes sense that this will be a matcha café. So they've teamed up with Bread Ahead, Bubble CiTea and PerfectTed on the food and drink front.

  • Vincenzo's in Shoreditch is teaming up with Heinz to become "Ranchenzo's"

It's been a while since we've had a big brand launching a mad pop-up in town, but here comes Heinz to change that. This week, they're holding a one-day pop-up in Shoreditch to launch their new Ranch Sauce.

They'll be taking over Shoreditch newcomer Vincenzo's and for one day it'll be "Ranchenzo's". Apparently, it's all about how people love dipping their pizza crusts in ranch sauce, so as a part of that, there will be a one-day-only pizza that's "just crust". That is, as you can see from the photo above, either a pizza with the centre cut out or a very, very big dough ball. You

  • New Shoreditch bar Seedy will channel the nineties with CDs rather than vinyl

Updated 12.01pm - yes this was our 2026 April Fool's (although we maintain it's only a matter of time before it happens...) Click here to see all our April Fool's stories in one place.

You can hardly move right now in East London for hip vinyl bars, but one new Shoreditch spot is hoping to switch things up a level. Seedy in Shoreditch sees two well-connected bar alumni opening their first standalone venture.

17/3/26 - updated with the opening date

Recently, Taqueria rebranded to TAQ after 20 years and Smokehouse became Bistro Sablé. Now here comes another big rebrand. After nine years, Nest in Shoreditch is about to be relaunched as Tavern.

  • Mitsu plans to mix the style of an East Tokyo izakaya with an East London vibe, taking over from Nobu Shoreditch

    Updated 3/3/26 with opening date

Mid last year, the Shoreditch expansion of Nobu quietly drew to a close. And what was the Nobu hotel has now become the London home of Aethos hotels. However, even though the new hotel opened back in October, they were holding back on what was going to replace the space that housed the Nobu restaurant. But now we know what's coming.

The new restaurant will be called Mitsu, which will be a Japanese restaurant that they say will be "capturing the spirit of East Tokyo's izakayas", albeit with something of an East London approach. So

  • Test Driving Hoppers Shoreditch, reinventing itself with a new South Indian twist to the menu

    bennedosa

Hoppers has just opened its fourth restaurant, this time in Shoreditch. And although they've been all about Sri Lankan food until now, this latest opening adds some brand new South Indian dishes to the menu. We went down to try all of them.

  • It's all change at The Light Bar in Shoreditch, with a new owner, executive chef and club room

Five years after it reopened after a long hiatus, The Light Bar in Shoreditch is about to enter its third iteration, with a brand new owner on board and - crucially - a rather interesting new executive chef.

Rob Star is the new owner of the well-known bar, and his takeover here quickly follows his opening of Firestarter restaurant in Liverpool Street, less than a mile away. He's also the man behind Electric Star Pubs. Which is kind of a neat fit, if you think about it, as The Light Bar used to be a Victorian power station.

What really prompted our attention though was the

  • Hoppers comes to Shoreditch, adding new South Indian dishes to its Sri Lankan signatures

Updated 20/1/25 with full details and an opening date.

It's been nearly 10 years since the original Hoppers launched in Soho. Now they're about to open their fourth restaurant, but this one is taking things in a different direction than before. Up until now, Hoppers has been known as a Sri Lankan restaurant but with this Shoreditch opening, they're bringing in more influences from South India.
