9/2/25 - updated with the opening date and more details
After making a big splash in Notting Hill with their first restaurant last year, Holy Carrot already has a second site lined up, this time in Spitalfields. However, this time around they'll be adding some vegetarian dishes, ditching the solely plant-based approach that the Notting Hill restaurant focused on.
It's run by Irina Linovich and ex-Acme Fire Cult chef Daniel Watkins, and of the original restaurant, we said it was "a plant-based menu that pushes what's possible with vegan food without feeling like boundaries have been set" with some really inventive approaches to that style of cooking. Now that there are even less boundaries, obvious or no, it'll be interesting to see what they come up with. Either way, it's a further sign that London's love affair with vegan restaurants is well on the wane.
The non-vegan offering here can mainly be seen by the main new additions to the menu - pizzettas. So you'll find a miso-marmite pizzetta finished with the very non-vegan grated pecorino as an example. Other new dishes include masala borlotti beans with grilled Iberico tomato and mustard greens as well as fire-grilled leeks with smoked Holy Carrot hot sauce and hazelnuts. The koji flatbread that was a big hit at the original will be appearing here too and you can, of course, expect the signature smoked carrot dish.
On top of the new menu, they're also adding a new "fermentation vault" to the Spitalfields site, and therefore lots of fermentation elements on the menu.
