One of two restaurants announced by fledgling group Mad Restaurants (the other is ALTA), Moi is all about Japanese cooking over fire and sounds very much in the Nobu mould.
It's going to be headed up by Andy Cook, who has most recently been opening restaurants all over the world for Gordon Ramsay (and he also launched Soho Farmhouse over here).
Dishes planned for the menu, which mainly uses British ingredients to create Japanese-inspired dishes, include a mix of grilled dishes and sushi. On the former front, you'll find Orkney scallops with juniper kombu or grilled turbot fillet with yuzu kosho butter. As for the sushi and sashimi dishes, they'll include an onigiri selection, alongside selections like crab temaki, with apple and kimizu sauce.
It sounds like a fair bit of effort is being made in the design of the space, with lots of raw concrete and reclaimed wood on display as well as two open kitchens on the ground floor. There's also a big concrete staircase that sounds highly Instagrammable. Head downstairs and you'll find a sushi kitchen and omakase bar alongside a listening bar that they say is "inspired by the hidden dens of Tokyo and Shinjuku". As for the drinks in that bar, they're from Dino Koletsas, best known for his work at Artesian bar.
We've had a few of this style of restaurant open in London recently, from Los Mochis to Niju, but not too many in Soho, where we could see this doing pretty well.
