Miko Mei Fair sees Samyukta Nair reviving Koyn Thai in a new guise, underneath MiMi Mei Fair

Since the closure of Koyn, restaurateur Samyukta Nair had said she would be looking for a new place to put Koyn Thai (which we loved when we visited). Now she's found that space - it's taking over the ground floor of MiMi Mei Fair and will be called MIKO Mei Fair.

That lower-ground space had a distinctly different look from the rest of MiMi Mei Fair, so it does seem like a good fit. The kitchen here will be led by Soonthorn Apaipat, who was the Head Chef of KOYN Thai, so if you were a fan of his cooking there, you'll want to check this place out too. They're promising the same fire-led cooking here, but it doesn't sound like they'll have an open kitchen like Koyn, so unfortunately we won't see the odd towering inferno displays that they occasionally used to put on there.

New dishes here include netted spring rolls, tofu & spring onion, prawns pla ra, toasted rice beef tenderloin and lobster choo chee. They're also making good use of the link-up with Mimi Mei Fair, by using their duck in the applewood fire Peking duck Penang curry. There will be some of Koyn's signatures appearing too, like the Chiang Mai sausage, black pepper squid, pad see ew and lamb massaman curry.

Thai-inspired cocktails will also be on offer, like the Sabai Sabai, with Mekong rum, kaffir lime, Thai basil and soda. As for the space itself, it will seat just 50 people with the look remaining largely the same as before (mainly booth seating) with new gold-leaf lotus accents throughout. There's also a private dining room for eight called the Peacock Room.

It's all sounding very promising, and Samyukta Nair herself says, "It is a celebration of Thailand’s energy and generosity, expressed through layered interiors, vibrant ingredient-led dishes and heartfelt hospitality." As Koyn Thai was so good, the prospects for this seem good.
