London's Ikoyi and Kol are the only UK entries in the 2025 World's 50 Best Restaurants List

All eyes were on Italy’s Turin this year, where the World’s 50 Best juggernaut staged their annual celebration of the globe’s best restaurants.

With only two London restaurants on the 51-100 long list announced earlier this month there was much speculation as to where the two restaurants on last year's list, Ikoyi and Kol, might place, and now the word is out.

In great news, Ikoyi, which debuted on the list in 2022, has cracked the top 15, rocketing from last year’s position of 42 to 15. This is the best performance by a UK restaurant in nine years and made Ikoyi the highest climber. Our last highest ranking was back in 2016, when The Ledbury made an appearance at 14 on the list.

But it’s still good news for Kol, which made the list for the first time in 2023, scraping in at 49 (17 last year).

And which restaurant ranked as the world’s best for 2025? That accolade goes to Lima’s Maido, led by chef Mitsuharu ‘Micha’ Tsumura. The much-debated list (often controversial) covers restaurants from 22 territories across five continents, with 10 restaurants appearing for the first time this year – Bangkok’s Potong was the highest new entry (13). There was much acclaim for Albert Adrià from Enigma in Barcelona (ranked 34 on the list), who received the Estrella Damm Chefs' Choice Award 2025; the only peer-voted award.

Amid the celebrations, it was touching to see a tribute to former Bloomberg Chief Food Critic (and former head of the committee for the UK and Ireland voting panel for the World's 50 Best Restaurants) Richard Vines, who died in April

At the time of writing, it’s still possible to book a table at Ikoyi next week for the £350 tasting menu if you want to see what all the fuss is about. You’d better be quick
