A couple of years ago, Gordon Ramsay bought Pizza East. Since then, the pizzeria has been running as normal, but now he's switching things up with a very interesting pop-up.
Ramsay's invited husband-and-wife chefs Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee, who are the team behind Michelin-starred LA restaurant Pasta Bar. That restaurant has been popping up across the globe, and the Shoreditch pizzeria is their London stopover. They'll be bringing people from the LA Pasta bar for the two-week pop-up, aiming to give Londoners a taste of the omakase-style pasta menu that the original restaurant is known for.
The menu's yet to be revealed, but there will be both a la carte menus and a four-course tasting option. To give you an idea of what to expect, dishes on the LA menu have included raviolo filled with king crab, cavatelli with Iberico pork, lamb loin with merguez sausage made from its belly meat and more. Expect the UK menu to have a few references to Pizza East too.
So if you've had this one on your list for an LA trip, or are looking to try something unique in Shoreditch, best mark it in the calendar. The restaurant also happens to be featured in Ramsay's new Apple TV+ show, Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars (airing on 10 October), which is surely no coincidence.
Of the pop-up, Ramsay himself says, "I am so delighted that Phillip Frankland Lee and his wife Margarita, from LA’s very cool, Michelin-starred Pasta Bar are heading to London for a unique collaboration with my team at Pizza East. What a pop-up this will be! I cannot wait to try their delicious menu and the whole Ramsay family will be first in line when it opens next Monday."
