Top Thai spot som saa is finally reopening, six months after a fire

som saa reopens after fire in shoreditch

Six months after a kitchen fire that closed it down for half a year, Shoreditch restaurant som saa is getting ready to reopen. But the team haven't been sitting twiddling their thumbs during the long closure and renovation. They've come up with a bunch of new dishes as well as a brand-new bar snacks menu.

New dishes you might want to go and try include lemongrass salad, with squid, pork and cashew nuts, along with salted beef and fresh bamboo braised in coconut cream. Even the cocktail list has had a serious refresh (we're very much looking to try the Green Negroni made with clarified Campari, pandan-infused gin and Cocchi Americano. That sounds like it'll go very well with new snacks like the pickled mango with fried shrimp paste relish or rice crackers with grilled cockles and chilli jam.

"The fire and resulting period of closure have been very challenging," co-owner Andy Oliver says, "but the silver lining of this is that we've been able to reflect on how som saa has developed and matured since opening nearly 10 years ago. The Thai food scene in London has come a long way since then, so it feels like a nice moment to reintroduce the restaurant to people who might not have visited in a while."
