Selfridges likes to keep pretty quiet about what's coming to the food hall until they arrive, and that's been the case with the latest addition. Last summer London's first Kakigori shop, Hinaga Kakigori, opened in Fitzrovia and now they've opened a second space, in Selfridges.

Run by husband-and-wife team Ashley Mah and David Dalrymple, the pair started out, as so many foodie businesses we know, as a micro-bakery during lockdown. Just over a year ago, Sally Abé left The Pem, the restaurant she launched at The Conrad St James, four years before (she's since opened the very successful Teal). While her OG restaurant has been running well since then, it's been without a named chef at the helm, and that's now changing.

We're not quite sure how this happens, but every once in a while you can see a massive trend rolling its way out through the London restaurant scene. Over the last twelve months, the new London openings all seem to have either been Italian or Japanese handroll bars.

Into the latter's mix that's already seen Kumori, Temaki, Maki Nori and Saltwater opening within months of each other, comes Miokuru in Soho. It's tucked away on Warwick Street, just off Regent Street, and it's another tiny space with room for just 20 diners.

So what makes this place different to all the rest?

What was once The Westbury has been closed for what seems like forever, undergoing a big redevelopment (they've even added an extra floor). And all of this work is about turning it into the St Regis London, a UK version of the luxury hotel group.
