Their last bar opening was in Soho, which has been a huge success, jumping in at 73 on this year's World's 50 Best Bars list. But for their next opening, brothers Max and Noel Venning are going back to where it all started. Berryman's will be opening just two doors down from the OG Three Sheets (where Dead Good Coffee used to be).
The new bar comes on the tenth anniversary of Three Sheets, and the pair have named this particular bar after their mother's maiden name. It's not just the name the bar is taking, because they say it's also inspired by her Cornish roots.
They're also straying a little farther from the formula of the previous bars, as the focus here will be on oysters (Cornish, of course), martinis and wine. On the cocktail front, there will be a rotating list of martinis, including a Vesper, and a drink that seems to be on every cocktail menu right now - a Cosmo (theirs is a white cosmopolitan with gooseberry). Alongside those will be a regularly changing wine list.
On the food front (with head chef Ethan Peck once again in charge), oysters will lead the menu, with garnishes including strawberry mignonette, gherkin granita, Kashmiri and clementine ponzu and their own house hot sauce. They're not done with martinis either, as they'll also have dirty martini crisps. Those are olive oil Sarriegui crisps, seasoned with a mix of juniper berries, kosseret tea, coriander seeds and olive powder; they really are a dirty martini in crisp form.
Moving away from Cornwall, the rest of the menu is taking its cues from coastal bars in Southern Spain and Northern Italy. So you'll find bar snacks like 18-month comté with quince, coppa di Parma, giardiniera pickles and a bikini sandwich. The latter will be a thin, pressed, toasted sandwich, with jamon, ’nduja, manchego and gouda.
The bar itself takes up almost the same amount of space as the original Three Sheets, so it's a small affair. It'll fit only 20 people and will be for walk-ins only. However, in a big change from the bar a few doors away, Berryman's will be standing-room only, with a marble bar or oak shelves surrounding the room for your drinks and snacks.
So, come November, you're about to have two excellent bars almost next to each other in Dalston. You'll just have to go to both of them.
