Karan Gokani first launched Hoppers in Soho ten years ago. Now he's getting ready to open up the fourth Hoppers in Shoreditch. But this time he's doing things a little differently, bringing in some new South Indian influences. We caught up with him to find out what's being planned for Shoreditch.
Asma Khan's hugely successful Darjeeling Express has moved around quite a bit in the past. It originally started as a supperclub in Soho, then opened in Kingly Court. It moved to Covent Garden for about a year and a half and then back to Kingly Court for its longest stint yet. But now, after three years, Darjeeling Express is on the move again.
The new Darjeeling Express will open at 36-40 Rupert Street, taking over the space that was once Hovarda (and for a short while David Thompson's Long Chim). It's a much bigger space than the current Darjeeling Express (it will fit in
...In 2024, Opheem became the first Indian restaurant in the UK to be awarded two Michelin stars (followed only a few minutes later by Gymkhana). The restaurant is one of Birmingham's best and is its only two-starred venue. Now the man behind it, chef Aktar Islam, is coming to London for his first opening in this city.
Aktar is opening Oudh 1722 in Borough in a three-storey listed Victorian building (it looks like it's taking over from Lupins). It's named after the Awadhi region, and that year refers to the roots of the local cuisine there, which originated
...The team behind The Tamil Prince (and The Tamil Crown) are getting ready to open the latest of their curry house spin-offs, Tamila, and this one is their most central yet. The new Tamila is opening in Soho, which they're touting as being their flagship space. It's taking over a prominent corner site on Poland Street that was most recently the Obica Mozzarella bar.
As with the other Tamilas (in Clapham and King's Cross), this is pitched as a modern version of a curry house with a focus on South Indian cuisine, influenced by executive chef Prince Durairaj’s heritage. So, the

Bringing something new to Soho is TANGRA, a new late night Indo-Chinese restaurant on Frith Street. It takes its name from the Tangra neighbourhood of Kolkata, with the menu influenced by the Hakka Chinese community there.

The Michelin-starred Benares is celebrating the New Year in Mayfair with a brand new look. Find out just how much has changed.

Londoners love their pubs and love a good Indian, so the growth of Indian-based pubs in the City isn't altogether surprising. Arriving off the back of the huge success of The Tamil Crown and Prince comes new Archway gastropub The Great Indian. If the name rings a bell it's because owner Aman Dhir also runs an Indian takeaway in Hackney under the same name. Up in Archway he's taken over the old Prince Alfred pub, just off the
