The problematic fried chicken giant Chick-fil-A is gearing up for its first London restaurant opening and they've picked Kingston.
It's the fast food company's second go at the UK following two attempts in 2019 in Reading and Aviemore. Both of those branches ended up closing after campaigns highlighting the company's anti-LGBTQ+ stance, illustrated by their charitable support of two very conservative Christian charities.
Since then, things have moved on. Chick-fil-A stopped funding those two particular charities and have gone on record saying they now focus on charities that work on issues of education, homelessness and hunger. Whether that's sufficient to change people's minds about it remains to be seen.
So far, they've opened successfully in Leeds and Northern Ireland. Now, London is in their sights.
As for the food, well the chicken sandwich is at the heart of the offering but other options include grilled nuggets, waffle potato fries and their must-have dipping sauce. Drinks range from iced tea and cookies and cream milkshakes to half-half, which is a combo of lemonade and ice tea.
They haven't officially announced an opening date yet, but we're hearing rumours about the first week in March. We'll keep you posted.
