NYC fried chicken spot Pecking House is popping up in London

London is getting a new fried chicken pop-up thanks to The Standard, which is bringing New York's Pecking House to the hotel for a two-month stint.

The New York spot was set up by ex-Eleven Madison Park sous chef Eric Huang, a project that originally kicked off during the Covid lockdown. It started as a pop-up in Queens and now they have a Chinatown outpost, serving up chicken that he describes as "Nashville hot chicken meets Taiwanese fried chicken." Eater New York described it as an "electric mashup of Southern and Sichuan sensibilities [which] is objectively, scientifically hot. It is also stupendously delicious."

Popping up at the King's Cross hotel's Double Standard bar, the menu in London features their signature dish, Chili Fried Chicken (country-fried chicken with duck fat chili oil) as well as the Chinatown Chicken Sandwich (Fried boneless chicken thigh, sweet & smoky mayo, tomato, pickles, and pork floss on brioche). Sides include baked gigante beans with chorizo and gem salad with buttermilk and furikake and there's also a vegan option, the MaPo tofu with avocado. The menu finishes up with coconut rice pudding with puffed rice and miso caramel.

So if this has been on your list for your next New York visit, then you'll want to get down to King's Cross from the end of July.
