Big news for anyone heading for Covent Garden or looking for a proper dining experience to complement a cultural excursion: acclaimed chef Angela Hartnett OBE is opening a new restaurant at the Royal Opera House.
It’s turning into a busy year for Hartnett - we recently told you about her new Cafe Murano planned for Marylebone. The Royal Opera House extravaganza on the fifth floor will also feature her Italian-inspired cuisine across lunch and dinner, as well as a Turin-inspired all-day rooftop terrace bar. Best of all, those panoramic views across Covent Garden aren’t just reserved for theatre diners
(though how lovely to combine a lunch/dinner, show and aperitivi!), anyone can rock up to the restaurant and bar.
We’re yet to hear specifics of the menu (or indeed a confirmed name for the restaurant), though something entirely new is promised in a relaxing space. We dream of a special night out to see Tosca preceded by a plate of Hartnett’s arancini, perhaps some squid and crab linguine, followed by a perfect slice of lemon tart.
If you’ve got tickets to a show in the interim and/or want to make the most of the heatwave, you can still access the Piazza rooftop terrace for lunch/dinner/drinks until 27 July.
