Carbone's glitzy Miami outpost
Here's some more concrete news about one of The Chancery Rosewood's signature restaurants. Yes, Carbone is definitely opening in London.
So far, planning information has given us the most detailed news (so far) about the famous New York restaurant that's opening in the same building as the Chancery Rosewood. We phrase it that way because although it is, like The Chancery Rosewood, opening in the old US Embassy on Grosvenor Square, the restaurant is completely separate from the hotel.
If the name Carbone doesn't mean much to you then know that the New York original, which opened in 2013, has long been a hit in the Big Apple for its take on New York Italian food and its celebrity clientele. It's also very hard to get into (as we discovered on our recent New York trip).
With an as-yet-unamed restaurant taking up the southeastern corner of the building, Carbone will be on the northeast corner. For Carbone, there's a large terrace on the ground floor and a small bar space, but the main restaurant is in the basement. Down there is a fairly massive space, where you'll find lots of booth seating, at least one private dining room and another bar.
That's all we have so far - but expect more information very soon. But expect it to have a very similar look to the Carbones that have opened around the world. And as for their food, it's a full-on Italian American affair, with dishes like lobster ravioli, veal marsala and lots of grilled meat and fish on the menu. The signatures are their spicy rigatoni in vodka sauce and an off-menu meatballs dish, while the full-on service by "captains" is a very big part of the occasion. Essentially, expect this to be the perfect venue for a big night out.
We'll have to wait a little while more to reveal just what the London offering is - so watch this space.
