If there's one thing London loves at the moment, it's a new local bakery. One of the more popular is Notting Hill's Layla Bakery, launched by Tessa Faulkner. Now they're looking to go further west for their second opening, this time in Acton.
The new place is just a few minutes from Acton Central station, so it's going to be an extremely handy commuter stop. A little smaller than the original, this will be mainly for takeaways, with just a few barstools inside and a bench outside if you need to pause to snack on your purchased baked goods.
As for what's on offer, it will be similar to the original bakery. So there's a strong focus on sourcing and sustainability and they use flours from Wildfarmed for their sourdough.
Recent pastries have included raspberry and lemon verbena "bowties", yuzu Swiss meringue custard tarts and cherry & chocolate crémeux pastries. They'll also have sandwiches, with recent options at the original bakery being BLT and a miso mushroom, red cabbage slaw, pickled carrot & sriracha sandwich (there's always a meat or veggie option). There are also sourdough loaves and it's all overseen by baker Colton Dinner, previously head baker at Notting Hill, now Executive Baker for both bakeries.
So, if you're in the Acton neighbourhood, this is one to watch - and expect queues when it opens.
