London's restaurants and bars are sprucing up their terraces with makeovers and new menus. Here's our guide to the new places to try - we'll keep this updated throughout the summer.
10 Argyle St, London WC1H 8EG
The rooftop space at this King's Cross hotel first opened last summer but this year it's got a new rooftop taco truck from chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias who runs the hotel' s 10th floor restaurant Decimo. On the menu you'll find chicken and pico de gallo tacos, guac and nachos along with fresh Maldon oysters. They're also serving up Spicy Tommy’s Margarita, Rum Punch and Espresso Martinis on tap and Mango Margarita slushies.
One New Change, St Paul’s, London EC4M 9AF
For a taste of Italy against the backdrop of one of London's most iconic views, head to this rooftop spot next to St Paul's. This summer they're teaming up with the Italian Aperitivo brand ITALICUS Rosolio di Bergamotto so the terrace has been given an Amalfi makeover with lemon trees and a new spritz drinks list. The Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto comes with Prosecco and olives, or how about The Italian Sunset which features Italicus with pink strawberry gin, chinotto and Italian blood orange soda?
20 Chesham Pl, London SW1X 8HQ
This garden terrace might be in the heart of Belgravia, but for the summer it's being tranformed into a St Tropez beach bar (from 28 April) as part of a takeover by the Côtes de Provence winery. Enjoy a chilled glass of rose alongside a menu of fresh fish, calamari, and charcuterie platters with olive tapenade. There's even a retractable glass roof over the Terrace should the weather not be quite up to the south of France standards.
5th Floor, 240 Regent Street (Entrance 30 Argyll Street), W1B 3BR
Up above Regent Street the terrace at Aqua Kyoto has been festooned with silk hydrangeas for a spring into summer look. There's a new cocktail menu to match with drinks including a Sweet Escape combining Pampero rum with Chambord, Peach Schnapps, vanilla, passion fruit and lemon and the Geisha made with sake, vodka, lychee and rose. Pair that with one of their pretty bento boxes for a long leisurely lunch.
40 Celebration Avenue, Stratford, London, E20 1DB
Set against the backdrop of urban Stratford, the terrace at The Gantry is channelling nature with a wildflower garden planted with meadow flowers. They're even serving the drinks on seeded paper menus and coasters that guests are encouraged to take home and plant. South African gin brand, Inverroche, is leading the drinks list with a seasonal G&T menu and cocktails like Pollination made with Inverroche Amber Gin, Chambord, Lemon and Local Honey, topped with Ginger Ale. If the nights are a little chilly the two large open-air fire pits should help warm things up.
4 Kingdom St, London W2 6PY
If your funds don't stretch to partying in Tulum, then the summer iteration of Pergola Paddington will be the next best thing apparently. Pergola Paraiso is a Tulum-inspired beach club. There'll be pop-up restaurants from Crudo Cevicheria and Dos Mas Tacos along with Margaritas and Corona on tap. You can book cabanas for private parties or just hang out in one of their hammocks and there will be weekly ‘Dusk’ events featuring dancers, fire performers and DJs.
South Wing, Somerset House, Strand, London WC2R 1LA
Back for its third season this riverside terrace will be serving up a list of ice-cold beers, including Especial and gluten-free along with their 0,0% all of which will be on draught. There's a new San Miguel Sundown Spritz cocktail and a tapas menu including padron peppers, patatas bravas and garlic and chili prawns with flat bread.
109-125 Knightsbridge, London SW1X 7RJ
It's all huge palms and creepers at the Fifth Floor Terrace at Harvey Nichols Knightsbridge which has been given a jungle makeover for the season to tie in with their partnership with Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin. This is also the only place in the world where you can try the brand's new limited-edition Experimentum Series. We very much fancy the sound of the Black Forest Mojito made with Monkey 47 infused with cherry syrup.
