There's little more comforting (and filling) than a really great Sunday lunch. Recently we've seen a fair few new openings bigging up their take on a proper roast. Here's our pick of the ones worth bothering with.
The Golden Tooth
Stoke Newington - 79 Green Lanes, London N16 9BU
This Stoke Newington pub comes from the team who used to run Papi and has quickly become a very popular local. Options on the Sunday menu here include Dexter picahna with horseradish creme fraiche, rolled pork loin with crispy crackling and an extra merguez sausage, grilled Yorkshire hogget belly or a corn-fed poussin with wild garlic. Those come with the trimmings, and you can order extra cauliflower cheese and potatoes too. If the custard cheese tart is on as a starter, that's a must-have.
The Victory
East Dulwich - 157 Lordship Lane, London SE22 8HX
The Victory took over the space left by longstanding East Dulwich restaurant Franklin's, and immediately became one of the best pubs in the area, led by Jamie Younger (of The Begging Bowl). The menu has hints of French influence, and that's seen in parts of the Sunday lunch, with a roast gurnard with girolles and half a roast poulet jaune chicken on there. A more traditional roast Blythburgh pork with sage and onion stuffing or a roast sirloin of 38-day aged Hereford beef are available too, with duck fat potatoes, roast carrots, buttered hispi cabbage and gravy on the side. The cauliflower cheese, featuring a mix of Comte, Cheddar and Gruyère, should be on your to-try list.
Café Clement
Temple - 180, The Thames, Ground Floor, St. Clement, 12 Temple Pl, London WC2R 2NF
The main downstairs restaurant at Nick Jones' celeb hangout hotel may be known more for star spotting and a Modern European menu, but they're also putting on a Sunday lunch. On the menu, for £35 at the time of writing, the options are whole baked trout, Cornish red chicken, Somerset lamb or prime rib. That all comes with more European-leaning trimmings like Tuscan roasted potatoes and Roman zucchini trifolati. And who knows, you might see an A-lister on a nearby table while you're there.
Cue Point at the Garden Bar and Grillhouse
White City - 41 Bramley Rd, London W10 6SZ
Cue Point are known for their amazing Afghan/Texas barbecued meat throughout the week, so it should come as no surprise that they put on a mean Sunday lunch. Specials on Sunday include a Wagyu tomahawk steak for three and smoked ribs, which come with saffron triple-cooked potatoes, cumin honey glazed carrots, smoked cabbage and, of course, a Yorkshire. There's also a cauliflower sumac and cheese and you can add on brisket, lamb shank, live fire madras chicken and more.
Island at the George & Dragon
Clerkenwell - 240 St John St, London EC1V 4PH
This is the surf and turf collab restaurant between chefs Tom Brown and Brad Carter. They originally had a popular Sunday roast at their first location, but we can see it winning a lot more fans at this new Clerkenwell pub, which is a much better fit for them. Ideally, you'll want to get a few of you together and get the family-style roast, which features beef rump & cheek, Tamworth porchetta and roast chicken, but all of those are available separately (as well as a "catch of the day") which come with all the trimmings. The roast potatoes here, in "surf" or "turf" seasoning, are particularly great.
Romano's
100 Strand, London WC2R 0EW
If you go to the main Grand Divan restaurant inside Simpson's in The Strand any day of the week, you'll be able to order a roast dinner from the roving beef trolleys. However, if you head up to their (more affordable) second restaurant, Romano's, they have a special roast available every Sunday. That's a roast rib of Devonshire beef served with all the trimmings for just under £40. We'd strongly recommend you also visit the Simpson's bar for a martini pre- or post-lunch.
Teal by Sally Abé
Hackney - 52 Wilton Way, London E8 1BS
Sally Abés new home in Hackney has been an incredible success and she's made the small space work in a great way. In her previous restaurants, The Pem and The Harwood Arms, she's been behind some great roasts and now she's just launched a Sunday roast at Teal. On the Sunday menu is a 35-day-aged rump of Hereford beef with horseradish cream, Cumberland stuffed pork belly with apple sauce and Pumpkin and Sage Wellington with black garlic gravy. But if you're really going for it, you'll want the sharing 800g bone-in ribeye. They're served with all the trimmings and cauliflower cheese. There's also a special Sunday dessert, with a sticky toffee pudding being added to the menu.
DakaDaka
Mayfair - 10 Heddon Street, London W1B 4BX
For a Georgian take on a Sunday lunch, head to Heddon Street and DakaDaka. Their Supra Sunday Roasts are inspired by traditional Georgian feasts. Things start with sharing dishes which include minted Nadugi cheese and jonjoli (pickled flower buds) with crispy Chvishtari cornbread before getting to the mains. There, you'll have a choice of Krekhmara (roast leg of lamb), Shkmeruli (half roast chicken) or bahze (roast delica pumpkin), all served with crispy potatoes and tomato salad.
Maison Francois
St James's - 36 Duke Street, St James's, London SW1Y 6DF
This autumn, Maison Francois is introducing Le Grand Roast for the first time. As you'd expect, it's a somewhat Gallic take on a Sunday roast, and features three roasts in one: suckling pig collar, aged beef rump, stuffed rabbit saddle. It even comes with escargots. On the side, you'll find pommes paillasson, Flourish Farm vegetables, cauliflower gratin and a Yorkshire pudding. You can buy each of the roasts individually, of course, but we'd say this is definitely a time to go "grand". Also keep an eye out for their "condiment trolley", roaming the room with mustards, béarnaise, apple sauce and more.
The Knave of Clubs
Shoreditch - 25 Bethnal Green Road, London E1 6JX
One Club Row serves up a "Sunday service" upstairs, but if you're looking for something that's more of a traditional Sunday lunch, you'll want to go to the pub downstairs. There, they'll be serving up a full rotisserie menu and as well as chicken, they'll be adding the new rosemary and sage porchetta, cooked on the rotisserie for extra-crispy crackling and a 28-day-aged sirloin. You'll also be able to order all three together. All that will come with Yorkshire puddings, hispi cabbage, carrots, gravy, and potatoes roasted in the fat from the rotisserie grill. (Starts on 4 October 2026)
