As we approach the run-up to the festive season, it's time to start thinking about booking those group dinners, with friends, relatives and colleagues. Show you're ahead of the pack by choosing somewhere from the most recent crop of private dining rooms to open. Here are our favourites.
Berenjak Mayfair
Mayfair - 80 Duke St, London W1K 6JG
Seats: Up to 8
The newest Berenjak is also home to the group’s first-ever private dining room. To find it, head downstairs where you’ll find the PDR tucked away. It’s very much fun-forward here with a TV and a PlayStation 5 on offer, along with beers by the Jeroboam and cocktail fountains.
Rosina
Wandsworth - 35 Bellevue Rd, London SW17 7EF
Seats: Up to 14
Adam Byatt’s latest opening overlooking Wandsworth Common has a lovely, sunny private dining room that boasts its own terrace and bar. Book the Rose Room and you can choose from either indoor and outdoor menus. Expect a range of Italian classics that you’ll find in the main restaurant and special BBQ options too.
Kinz
Notting Hill - 50 Notting Hill Gate, London W11 3JD
Seats: Up to 16
Notting Hill’s glitzy new Lebanese restaurant has two spaces bookable for private dinners. Our favourite of the two is The Vault which is an intimate space which also doubles as their wine room and is great for any wine-focused events. There’s also a larger space right at the top of the building, with room for 16 seated for dinner.
Guinness Open Gate Brewery
Covent Garden - 1 Mercer Walk, London WC2H 9FA
Seats: Up to 25 guests
The real USP of the private dining space inside the Guinness brewery in Covent Garden is that it comes with your own private Guinness bar. The lounge area also means there’s space to mingle and enjoy your pint before sitting down to lunch or dinner. The food centres around classic British and Irish dishes, bringing together elements from both the Gilroy’s Loft and The Porter’s Table restaurants here.
The Albatross
City of London - 8-10 Old Jewry, London EC2R 8DN
Seats: Up to 12
Freshly opened in the City, this latest offering from the team behind Goodman and Wild is a huge seafood-focused pub that sprawls across two floors. Upstairs is where you’ll find the wood-panelled private dining room. It’s separated from the general melee by a thick velvet curtain giving you privacy but still connecting you to the fun going out outside.
Mitsu
Shoreditch - 10-50 Willow St, London EC2A 4BH
Seats: 12-40
Bringing Tokyo energy to Shoreditch, Mitsu’s a great place to book if everyone in your group or office is nuts about sushi and kushiyaki. There are two incredibly stylish rooms here that can be combined into one great space for up to 40 people.
Dante Mayfair
Mayfair - Claridge's, Brook St, London W1K 4HR
Seats: Up to 14 seated or 25 standing
If you’re after a Mayfair private dining room with its own terrace, then the one at Dante hits the spot. As you’d expect from any space at Claridge’s, it’s beautifully designed, but we particularly like that it has its own entrance and terrace if privacy is a big deal for you and your guests. Expect truckloads of martinis and dishes served family-style.
Sale e Pepe Mare
Mayfair - 1C Portland Pl, London W1B 1JA
Seats: Up to 18 seated or 35 standing
Right by the entrance to the newest restaurant at The Langham London is where you’ll find their private dining room. It’s a generously sized room and we like that it has plenty of light, making it particularly good for lunches. In addition to group menus, they also offer add-ons like seafood towers and platters of oysters.
Bar Des Pres
Mayfair - 41a S Audley St, London W1K 2PS
Seats: 28 diners over 3 tables
The second iteration of this Cyril Lignac restaurant has private room hidden behind the main dining room. That's where you’ll find the salon. Arranged across three tables, it would be fabulous for a small London wedding or a group get-together. Even better, those who book the salon can ask chef Cyril Lignac to come up some bespoke canape arrangements just for them.
