Borough is getting a new late night Italian American bar from a Michelin-starred chef

It's all change at Spring Street Pizza down in Borough, where some pretty exciting plans are underway. The pizzeria by chef Tom Kemble, who won a Michelin star for his previous restaurant at Bonham's, has already carved out a name for its pizzas. And that's not easy in a market as feverish as London's pizza scene. Now he's planning a massive expansion into the space next door, where he's opening up an Italian American bar.

The move into the next-door arch will create a space that will have room for 200 people, serving up a mix of cocktails and bar food. They're boasting of having South London's 'first dedicated martini list' but there'll also be Italian wines and beers and - we're guessing here - Negronis on offer.

As for the food, this will be an entirely different menu from the pizza one. We're talking crudo, fritti, artisan Italian cheese and charcuterie platters.

"We’ve always been drawn to New York’s Italian-American neighbourhood restaurants and bars, places where you can drop in for a drink, stay for something to eat," says Tom. "The new bar gives us a chance to explore more of that culture beyond pizza, with a bigger drinks programme and a completely new food menu."

The pizza restaurant has been closed briefly on account of the renovation, but reopens this week with the bar expected to open next month.
