San Hao is going to be Chinatown's hot new noodle spot with top British produce

san hao noodle and dumpling restaurant opening in chinatown

We're always going to be interested in the arrival of a hot new noodle restaurant. But the one being unveiled in Chinatown next month sounds like it's really bringing something new to the table.

San Hao is the latest opening from the restaurant team behind YiQi, The Eight and Dozo. They're describing the place as a "refined noodle and fried dumpling restaurant". What's refined about it? Well, that'll be down to the strong emphasis on the quality of the produce, which is going to use the best of local and sustainable British ingredients.

The restaurant is taking over a three-storey space on the corner of Gerard Street and Newport Place. And while the noodles, fried dumplings and spicy cold dishes will be everything you'd expect from a Chinatown spot, this place is going to view classic dishes through a modern British lens. "We want to show that Chinese cuisine and British produce share a common respect for seasonality, balance, and depth of flavour," explains founder Keng Leong. "Every ingredient has a story — we just tell it through the language of noodles."

Examples of that include slow-braised Hakka Berkshire pork noodles with spicy sa cha sauce, Beef brisket noodles made with British grass-fed beef and Rattan pepper seafood sheng jian bao dumplings. In the kitchens for the launch will be executive chef Daren Liew, whose background includes the Hakkasan Group, Duddell's and Nanyang Blossom. So you can see they mean business.

There'll be room for more than a hundred diners at this new 'From London, For London' restaurant, but we still predict queues on the opening weekend.
