It's been a troubled few years at The Langham, which has struggled to find a solid proposition for its main restaurant space since Roux at the Landau closed back in 2023. They did try to follow that with Mimosa from French group Moma, but that folded after a scant five months of service.
But news today suggests that a new lease of life for the restaurant may be just around the corner. The Thesleff Group, who run Los Mochis and Sale e Pepe in Knightbridge, are taking over the space. They're planning a seafood iteration of the Knightsbridge restaurant, Sale e Pepe Mare. That makes it the first new restaurant for the Knightbridge restaurant in over 50 years (it opened in 1974).
It's going to be an all-day affair, but looking ahead, the lunch and dinner menus are what interest us most. Think lobster linguine, seabass crudo and shellfish towers. A room this size (5000 square feet of Marylebone restaurant real estate) needs a bit of drama, and they're planning that with the installation of a massive seafood display showcasing what's fresh in that day. There's also going to be plenty of trolley action; a dessert trolley will serve up tiramisù tableside, there'll be Caesar salads and bucatini cacio e pepe made in front of you and a Champagne and Negroni trolley doing the rounds.
CEO Markus Thesleff says he grew up visiting the Knightsbridge original with his parents. "With Sale e Pepe Mare, we’re honouring that legacy while reimagining it for today."
Sounds like this one might be just the restaurant revival that The Langham London is looking for.
