Bakery HOKO in Bethnal Green is the latest iteration from the stylish HOKO team

If you're deeply partial to an egg tart, honey butter toast or freshly baked char siu bun, then we have just the new bakery for you to try. Bakery HOKO comes from the same team who brought you their Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng on Brick Lane and a wonton noodle stall in Seven Dials. This time, as the name suggests, it's all about baked goods.

Owners Nicole Ma and Ryan Leung say they want to introduce Londoners to Hong Kong culture and food. This latest opening, they say, "takes inspiration from the neighbourhood bakeries found throughout Hong Kong public housing estates." But it's definitely viewed through a London lens, with aesthetics very much on point.

If you're visiting for the first time and are wondering what to order, they say the bakery's signature dishes are a Bolo bun with salted butter, Hong Kong egg tart, snow crust char siu bun, Horlicks swiss roll and seaweed egg salad bun. Their Hong Kong-style French toast was always a mainstay of the menu in Brick Lane, and now they're able to bake their own milk bread to make it from.

Other dishes we very much fancy trying include an Ovaltine Cream Bun and a Beechwood-Smoked Sausage Bun.

There's room to sit in, which means you can grab a pastry along with drinks like an Oolong cold brew, Horlicks foam Ovaltine or, of course, Hong Kong milk tea.
