After years of pop-ups and residencies, Cambodian restaurant Barang is finally getting ready to open a permanent restaurant in Soho.
The modern Cambodian-inspired restaurant comes from Tom Geoffrey (previously a chef at Kiln) and has had successful pop-ups over the years. The longest was a six-month residency at The Globe Tavern in Borough Market, a pub which has become known for being a springboard for restaurant launches, the most recent being Khao Bird. He's followed that with a month-long residency at Mare Street Market (there until 5 September), and the menu there gives us an idea of what's coming to Soho, with dishes including:
- Prahok Ktis: Pork Mince, Pickled Mussels, Toast, Radish
- Diver Scallop, Jeow Bong Butter, Pickled Apple & Daikon, Pork Skin
- Sour Curry of Hake, Carosello Cucumber, Eggplant, Morning Glory
- Roasted Pork Belly, 5-Spice & Ginger Pork Sauce, Mustard Greens
Details of the opening haven't been officially revealed yet, but we hear that Barang will be opening inside Kingly Court in Carnaby, taking over the spot that was recently vacated by Darjeeling Express. It's a big space, so we'll have to wait to see how Tom Geoffrey transforms it into Barang.
