Dee Rettali is the co-founder of one of London's best bakeries, Fortitude Bakehouse. The bakery has won multiple awards, viral fame, and Dee’s very first book, Baking with Fortitude won the André Simone Food award in 2021 when it was released. Dee currently bakes at Fortitude, which she runs with the help of her children, using ferment and sourdough based pastry, bread and batter to form the base of her beloved bakes. Irish-born, she now calls Chiswick home, and that’s the area she’s sharing her favourite places to eat and drink with us.
The Anglesea Arms
35 Wingate Rd, London W6 0UR
This pub is a ten-minute walk from our house. We're so lucky to be near it - The Anglesea is a great neighbourhood hangout, and it serves really good food on a menu that changes daily. It's properly done pub food - moules marinieres, chicken milanese, ham hock terrine - you can't go wrong, and the team are brilliant.
Mother's Bakehouse
16 Devonshire Rd, Chiswick, London W4 2HD
A very simple but lovely selection of sourdough bread, loaves and bakes in a traditional, homely space. When I visit, I have their boiled egg and soldiers - it's unbeatable and so comforting.
Macken Brothers
44 Turnham Green Terrace, Chiswick, London W4 1QP
This butchers on Turnham Green has been around for ages and has always been consistently good. They have really good quality meat, with beef from Scotland. They age it all in-house as well, which is always a bonus.
Duci Gelato
8 Devonshire Road, London W4 2HD
Duci is a go-to for me and my family. It feels like a well-kept West London secret. The team there serve gorgeous artisanal Sicilian ice cream, gelato, semifreddo and cannoli. They have a huge selection of flavours - you can't really go wrong.
Natoora
35 Turnham Green Terrace, Chiswick, London W4 1RG
Natoora in Chiswick is my go-to for fruit and veg - I love popping in and seeing what they have each week or so. I really value seasonal ingredients, so having a shop close by that I can find the best at the peak of the season is really handy.
Debbie Jo
5 Chardin Rd, Chiswick, London W4 1RJ
Debbie Jo make incredible coffee. And I love how light and airy the space is. It’s a lovely place to enjoy a drink and watch the world go by for a little bit.
