MasterChef: The Professionals winner Alex Webb is opening his own restaurant Orion in Wimbledon Village

MasterChef: The Professionals winner Alex Webb is opening his own restarunt Orion in Wimbledon Village

He had a very successful long-term pop-up at The Inercontinental, but now former MasterChef: The Professionals winner Alex Webb is getting ready to open his own place.

Orion is opening in Wimbledon Village (taking over the space that used to be The Light House). He's pitching the restaurant as a British/French sharing-style restaurant, with a big focus on seafood. That seafood element will be highlighted by a fish counter with today's catch, along with premium king crab and oysters.

As for the dishes, they kick off with the particularly great-sounding mini crab waffles covered with brown crab mayonnaise, crème fraîche, lime and caviar. A favourite from his pop-up is back (a version of this also appeared on MasterChef), the lobster and prawn toast with black sesame and chilli jam, and the menu willl also feature an ever-changing fish of the day.

Desserts will also be a big deal, particularly Alex's take on a Twix - layers of tonka bean shortbread with salted caramel, dark chocolate, topped with crème fraîche ice cream. He'll also have a few soft-serve ice cream options on the menu and, most importantly, there will be a dessert trolley roaming around.

As for the name, the restaurant is intended to be a tribute to his late father and grandfathers, with the Orion constellation symbolising the three of them.
