Lilibet's is an extra looking new seafood spot taking over the old Hakkasan Mayfair site

If you're bored of seeing London restaurants all following the same design playbook, then the arrival of a new seafood restaurant in Mayfair is going to make you sit up and pay attention. Lilibet's is taking over a building in Mayfair that has double significance. For years, it was the site of Hakkasan Mayfair, but way before that, it was also the birthplace of the late Queen Elizabeth. And it's to her that this new restaurant turns as a muse.

Behind it is restaurateur Ross Shonhan, who founded the Bone Daddies group and, before that, was Executive Chef at both Nobu and Zuma. Here in Mayfair, he's teamed up with the Russell Sage Group (Quaglino's, Petrus, Savoy Grill) for quite the eye-popping restaurant. There's room for an oyster bar, a fireside grill, a heated terrace and a cocktail bar and all of it's designed in an array of florals and other patterns. "This address carries an unexpected history," explains Ross, "and that gave us the freedom to be creative."

As for the food, they're saying that it's about British produce but they're happy to embrace flavours from further afield. That means everything from a massive seafood platter and lobster tails over spaghetti through to more outre options like an anchovy eclair and whole turbot pil-pil. You can also order a Fish Triptych, where you pick the fish and it'll then be served in three different ways: crudo, grilled, and as a soup.

That cocktail bar we mentioned earlier will focus on martinis (hooray!) along with a selection of 'light bites'.
