Café Ciel opens in The OWO from the founder of Miel bakery

Café Ciel opens in The OWO from the founder of Miel bakery

The OWO might be one of London's most expensive new hotels, but it hasn't had the most trouble-free launches. Chief among those was one of the restaurants, Café Laperouse, which had a dire review from Jay Rayner who also called attention to the low hygiene rating. Even though the latter was quickly resolved, the restaurant closed just two years after opening.

Now, something new has opened in its place, at least inside the prominent structure in the hotel's courtyard. That's Café Ciel, and if that name sounds a little familiar, then it's because, according to Caterer website, it's from the founder of Miel bakery in Fitzrovia, Shaheen Peerbhai. That's one of our favourite bakeries in town, so it's a good sign.

The official launch of the cafe is due to be this Friday, but it has actually already been open for nearly a month. Menu details are a little hard to come by, apart from a description of "seasonally inspired brunch plates, artisanal pastries, and sweet treats". A recent Wimbledon tie-in features snacks like cacio e pepe popcorn, so it sounds like it'll be fairly different to the very French Miel Bakery. We'll add more details about the offering as we get them.
