A Mexican/Sri Lankan residency is coming to Paradise Soho

A Mexican/Sri Lankan residency is coming to Paradise Soho

Sri Lankan cooking, Mexican street food, a fun night out in Soho? You can tick all three off your wish-list at once, thanks to a pop-up called Miris y Maíz. It all takes place at Paradise Soho, and the cooking comes from Dom Fernando (the man behind Paradise).

You can expect a blend of British produce, Mexican and Sri-Lankan spices and a few unexpected touches, whether you settle in for pre-dinner margaritas or a linger over late-night tacos. Yes, but what does this mean exactly? A taste of the pop-up menu includes:

  • Twelve-hour coconut-braised Jaffna beef brisket with chocolate and peanut mole served with calamansi curd
  • Crisp pappadam tostadas layered with guacamole, spiced cashew crunch, pumpkin seed oil, coconut and carrot salas macha
  • Coal roasted prawn with ancho-chilli, Nuwara-eliya coffee rub, lime pickle butter, handello anchovy and chipotle with smashed cucumber and cactus slaw

If that hasn’t whetted your appetite for something a bit different, there’s the Mexican Trés Leche Cake for dessert, which involves blending arrack to make an infused-milk sponge with a burnt meringue cap.

There’ll be cocktails to further intrigue, such as the Arrack Michelada with Ceylon arrack, Lion lager, chamoy, tomato water and tajin foam. But we like the sound of the Chilli and Cherry Margarita, also with arrack, malu-miris chilli, pepper, chipotle and oat milk.
