Unless you’re a professional food taster, you may not have had the pleasure of cleansing your palate with a shot of olive oil, but that’s all about to change with the news that an olive-oil pop-up bar is coming to Notting Hill.
Much more than a health food, extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) conjures up majestic drizzles of the golden stuff on sun-drenched Mediterranean escapes. And for a short time, you can both educate your taste buds and revel in some tasty olive-oil-focused delights at the Olive Oil Clubhouse, brought to us by Citizens of Soil.
There’ll be the chance to purchase limited-edition, small-batch bottles to impress at your summer picnics (hello, Sicilian bottle designed by East Sussex artist Hal Haines), as well as flights of three EVOOs each day to taste (sip and swirl around the mouth, don’t knock it back like a shot!). Each EVOO sample will be paired with a tasty morsel to enhance its flavour. Creamy, buttery, grassy notes, a pleasing peppery finish? Yes, you are going to be *that* person while concocting your next salad dressing.
A Thursday night cocktail ‘golden hour’ is on the cards, with mysterious freebies promised. They’re also intending to open later on special evenings with the chance to win a complimentary cocktail created by some of London’s most innovative mixologists.
We’re most excited by the news that Happy Endings are collaborating. A cult ice-cream favourite for over a decade, its weekend offerings of vanilla soft serve or chocolate sorbet will be further enhanced by a drizzle of EVOO.
It sounds like something to check out while escaping the Portobello Market crush or as a pre-/post- dinner treat. We’ll see you in the queue for soft serve.
