Ravneet Gill has been a big name in the London restaurant scene for many years, with three cookbooks under her belt, time spent working at restaurants like St John and Black Axe Mangal, not to mention her TV appearances. Her chef husband Mattie Taiano, meanwhile, has worked in top places like The Camberwell Arms, Som Saa and Franks. Now the couple are teaming up for their first restaurant together, Gina.
In Chingford (just next to the station, on the line to Liverpool Street), the restaurant is intended to be a "chophouse-style" affair, with carefully sourced meat and fish, and a dessert menu managed by pastry chef Gill. As for that menu, here's a taste of it:
- Monkfish, bacon & oak leaf
- Violet aubergine caponata, cecina & salted ricotta
- Spit roast Hubbard chicken, Caesar salad & chips for two
- Ravi’s chocolate cake
They'll have daily cuts of meat on the blackboard and a Sunday lunch, which adds pork shoulder and braised lamb shoulder to the menu. And you've got to love a restaurant with throwbacks like parma ham and melon as well as strawberry jelly and custard to finish.
If you're in the Chingford area, this sounds like an excellent new neighbourhood restaurant and for anyone else, one worth travelling to.
