This year's awards are held in The Dublin Convention Centre
When will the 2026 London Michelin stars be announced?
This year's announcement will be on Monday, 9 February 2026. The event usually starts around 6pm (allowing the chefs to go out and celebrate after).
Following the Scottish trip for the 2025 announcement, Michelin will be announcing the stars in Ireland for the first time. They'll be hosting the event in The Convention Centre Dublin, down by The Liffey in the Docklands area of the city. And if any chefs are planning their stay now, we recently stayed in Anantara The Marker just across the river from the convention centre and can highly recommend that.
As ever, having the event in Ireland doesn't mean that Michelin will then be particularly generous to the country in their star giving. That said, Scotland did get two new stars last year, so let's hope Michelin thinks of Ireland this time around. Chapter One in Dublin has long been deserving of three stars, so we hope Michelin reads the room and makes that happen.
At the event, we'll find out who's won stars this year, as well as who has won a green star (for sustainability) and some of the special awards. As ever, the guide is only available online now, but we've been tracking all the monthly additions for London here.
What about the Bib Gourmands?
Michelin used to announce these a week in advance, which acted as a handy reminder that the stars were incoming. However, in 2025 there was no announcement and the restaurants weren't even named at the event. It seemed like a major oversight, so here's hoping they get their act together this year and announce them properly.
How can I watch the main announcement?
The awards should be streamed online, usually from 6pm, on 9 February and you'll be able to find them on Michelin's YouTube channel. It's well worth keeping that YouTube page open on the day as it's full of great, unrestrained commentary on the event in real time. Also, expect the announcements to appear on Michelin's Instagram page and Twitter feed.
We, of course, will be putting up our coverage on the night, so follow us on our on Instagram to get the latest on any key London announcements.
Do the chefs know in advance if they've won a star?
Usually, all invitees to the event who already have a star will be retaining theirs, but most of the restaurants who get shiny new stars will only find out on the day. An invite to the event is almost always a good sign, but that could just mean they're up for a special award, so best be wary if you get an invite. And if you're a chef hoping for a star, note that those invites aren't all sent out at once. So just because a chef you know has had their invite doesn't mean yours isn't coming.
Previously, the only exception to advance notification is if they're being awarded three stars. That announcement can have such an impact on a business that they usually get a little heads-up. Recently, The Ledbury suggested they were unaware, but we remain sceptical.
How many stars are usually awarded?
Michelin presents the stars for all of the UK and Ireland during the same event. In the case of London, we'd normally expect around 10 restaurants to get new stars, but the number can vary wildly. Last year, there were ten new one-stars and two new two-stars. The year before was roughly the same, but they also revealed a new three-star restaurant. It's well known that Jason Atherton is eyeing another star for Row on 5 which is, in fairness, deserved. We'll have to wait until February to see if he gets his wish.
We do know that there will be at least three deletions, as Claude Bosi at Bibendum and La Dame de Pic have both closed, while Dosa was relaunched as Somssi after the departure of Akira Back, and appears to have lost its star in the process.
As for the current list, you can see all of London's Michelin-starred restaurants here.
And do they still matter?
Every year, this question comes up. However, as much as the awards could do with some modernisation, and they really need to think hard about how to present the Bibs, there are still no other awards that come close to the same kind of wide recognition. The World's 50 Best does get a lot of coverage, but that focuses on a much smaller amount of restaurants overall. So the short answer is: yes. Whether you love them or loathe them, they're still a very big deal.
Which London restaurants currently have a Michelin Star?
In London, there are 80 Michelin-starred restaurants. There are six restaurants with three stars, 13 with two stars and 61 with one star.
