Just a few weeks ago, chef Will Devlin opened the London outpost of his restaurant Birchwood at The Conduit in Covent Garden. But that was only part of his London plans, as the rooftop at The Conduit was also up for a revamp. Now we know what it's going to be, as the chef is opening Nettle up there.
It'll be a different approach to the ground floor, with ever-popular fire-led cooking being the focus up on the roof. They're building a custom-made grill to show how serious they are about that. But, like downstairs, much of the produce in Nettle will be sourced from Devlin's own farm, with more meat and fish also sourced from Kent and Suffolk.
On the menu here, things start with snacks like pork scratchings & blackened apple sauce and hake croquettes, with small plates including Wild rabbit skewer and fermented chilli. On the larger dish side, there will be Wild venison, nasturtium & shiso, Kent lamb & house togarashi and grilled day-boat whole fish. On the dessert front, Pump Street chocolate and cep mushroom does sound interesting.
The rooftop itself is getting a revamp for the launch, and has great views across Covent Garden. It may have missed the summer season, but there's plenty of inside and covered space up here too.
