A Hot Dinners exclusive
Islington-based The Tamil Prince has made life a whole lot more tasty for North Londoners, and now it’s South London’s turn. That's right, we're bringing you the exclusive news of the opening of Tamila in Battersea.
Launching on the former site of plant-based/vegan VE Kitchen, Tamila will be a casual, standalone place, with seating for 50 (limited space for walk-ins) alongside some alfresco options when the weather is a little less rainy than at present. You may have even seen an earlier incarnation of Tamila at a stall at Hackney Bridge Kitchens (running a curry club among the food traders every Tuesday). Consider that the road-testing for this bricks-and-mortar launch.
The Tamila menu will feature the tried-and-true flaky rotis and South-Indian-inspired curries from co-founder and executive chef Prince Durairaj alongside regular specials and new offerings from the tandoor. You can expect:
- An expanded bread offering: garlic coriander naan, peshwari, kulcha naan
- Dosas: masala, mutton uttapam, or chilli cheese
- Masala Poori: wheat flour fried bread served with potato masala and coconut chutney
To cool things down, you can choose from Indian-spiced cocktails (Tamil Negroni, Gunpowder Margarita, Charcoal Old-Fashioned), wines and the house Tamila lager.
